✨ What is Glaze?
Glaze is a translucent, slow-drying medium that’s applied over paint to add depth, highlight details, or create a weathered or aged look. Unlike waxes, glazes are water-based, making them easy to work with, easy to clean up, and more forgiving for beginners.
🎨 Meet the Country Chic Paint Glaze Collection
Our glazes come in a selection of beautifully curated tints that work perfectly with our paint colors. Each one brings a unique mood and personality:
🖤 Graphite
A deep, dramatic black glaze that’s perfect for adding contrast and shadow. Try it over lighter shades like Simplicity or Vanilla Frosting to make carved details pop and give your piece a bold, vintage edge.
🤎 Tiger’s Eye
This warm, golden brown glaze adds a sun-kissed, antique feel to your project. Beautiful over colors like Hollow Hill, Crinoline, or Bee’s Knees for a rustic, farmhouse-inspired look.
🖤 Slate
A cooler-toned gray glaze that’s ideal for creating a soft, smoky finish. It works wonderfully over whites, blues, and even bold colors like Wanderess to tone them down and add complexity.
🖤Smoky Quartz
Think deep espresso brown with hints of warmth — perfect for creating a rich, moody patina. Use Smoky Quartz over neutral colors or layer it over deeper tones for added depth and age.
🤍 Limestone
Our softest glaze, Limestone offers a light, chalky whitewash effect. Ideal for layering over darker hues like Peacoat, Jitterbug, or Liquorice to create a coastal, weathered look.
💧 Clear
The true chameleon in your DIY kit. Our Clear Glaze lets you mix in any Country Chic Paint color to create your own custom glaze shade! It can also be used on its own for a subtle protective sheen.
🎨 How to Make Your Own Glaze Color
Want something totally unique? You can customize your own glaze using our Clear Glaze and any Country Chic Paint color!
Here’s how:
- Mix 1 part paint to 3–4 parts Clear Glaze (adjust ratio for more or less color intensity).
- Stir thoroughly until smooth.
- Test on a sample area first to see how it looks over your base color.
- Apply with a brush or lint-free cloth, then wipe back to your desired level of coverage. Wiped too much? Just add more glaze!
This is a great way to create color washes, tone down bold colors, or highlight textures in carved wood and detailing.
🎨 Layering & Contrasting with Glaze
Layering glazes or using contrasting glaze colors is a powerful technique that adds incredible visual depth. It’s ideal for artistic or rustic finishes. Want to know how to make a flat piece of furniture have the depth of wood? Check out our newest tutorial!
Here’s how to do it:
- Paint your base color and let it fully dry - below example has a Driftwood base.
- Apply your first glaze layer (e.g., White Glaze over dark paint) and wipe back. We mixed used Smokey Quartz
- Let it dry completely.
- Apply a second glaze to specific areas like corners, edges, or crevices for added depth. In our piece, we wanted to make our own using Driftwood & Clear Glaze.
- Use a damp cloth to blend and soften the edges for a seamless finish.
🔁 Pro tip: You can layer glazes just like you layer paint. Be sure each layer is dry before applying the next to avoid muddying the look.
🧽 Application Tips for Best Results
- Work in small sections to avoid the glaze drying before you can wipe it back.
- Use one of our synthetic brushes, Painting sponge, or lint-free cloth for application.
- Always wipe in the direction of the wood grain.
- Seal with Clear Coat if extra durability is needed.
